Volunteers’ Week 2025

Celebrating the Lifeblood of Our Communities: Volunteers’ Week 2025

Next week is Volunteers’ Week (2–8 June). This annual celebration is a chance to recognise the incredible contribution of volunteers across the UK. Whether it’s helping a neighbour, supporting NHS services, mentoring young people, or looking after the local environment, volunteers play a vital role in making our communities stronger, healthier, and more connected.

Volunteers are the unsung heroes of society. Their dedication helps bridge gaps in services, bring comfort to those who are isolated, and support vulnerable individuals during times of need. In Norfolk alone, thousands of volunteers give their time, energy, and know-how freely every day. The impact of this generosity is not just emotional and social—it’s also financial. National estimates suggest that volunteering contributes over £18 billion to the UK economy annually. In Norfolk, this translates to millions of pounds’ worth of value added to health, social care, and community services.

What’s coming up for Volunteers’ Week in 2025 across Norfolk?

Voluntary Norfolk is proud to be part of this nationwide celebration and is taking the opportunity to thank our amazing volunteers in a variety of heartfelt ways throughout the week. We’ll be hosting a series of events, including local coffee mornings and garden parties, where volunteers can come together to share stories, enjoy a well-earned cup of tea, and be thanked for their invaluable contributions by our volunteer coordinators.

A highlight of the week will be the Helen Johnson Awards, which honour those who have gone above and beyond in their volunteering roles. Named in memory of Helen Johnson, a dedicated trustee and former chair of the charity, who gave 16 years of service to Voluntary Norfolk, these awards pay tribute to individuals who exemplify the very spirit of giving and community support. The awards will happen on Friday 6th June are a reminder of the extraordinary difference one person can make to so many others, and aim to inspire future potential volunteers to step forward and get involved.

Voluntary Norfolk is also thrilled to announce the return of the Volunteer Extravaganza, taking place on Thursday 5th June from 10am to 3pm at The Forum in Norwich. This vibrant event brings together 70 charities, voluntary groups, and social enterprises, connecting them with members of the public to celebrate volunteering and promote the many ways people can get involved. Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or simply curious about opportunities in your area, the Extravaganza is the perfect place to connect, learn, and be inspired.

As we mark Volunteers’ Week, everyone at Voluntary Norfolk would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to every volunteer who helps to make Norfolk a kinder, more inclusive place. Your generosity truly changes lives—and we are incredibly grateful!
