Community Support Volunteers might help by collecting prescriptions or walking the dog, do some shopping (going to the shops or online) or help with light household tasks, such as washing up or hanging out the washing, or they could help someone get out to a local community group. This role is definitely varied!

Why volunteer?

Volunteering is really enjoyable, so many people simply like that it makes them feel good! By volunteering you also get to help your community.

Our volunteers always tell us that they find helping people very satisfying. Our volunteer Dan put it really nicely:

“It is most satisfying to see people deriving benefit from my visits and seeing their demeanour improving over the weeks. I will go the extra mile where necessary, but in many cases all I have to do is provide time, company, and sometimes a gentle walk.

“Yesterday, a client told me he really looked forward to my visits. That makes it all worthwhile.”

You can also volunteer for specific goals and purposes, for example:

  • Share your skills and experience with others
  • Boost your confidence
  • Improve your own wellbeing
  • Make friends and meet new people
  • Learn a new skill

How does it work?

As a Community Support volunteer, you will be contacted when there is someone in your area who needs some help to get them back on their feet. We will explain what sort of help that person needs and for how long; it might be for a one-off activity, or for a couple of hours a week, for a few weeks. If the task works for you and your availability then great, if not, no problem; we’ll contact you again when there is someone else in your area who needs some help. You have the option to take on as many, or as few, tasks as you want to, and pick the ones that interest you!

If this sounds like the sort of role for you, then apply using the link below. You can also email us at communitysupportservice@voluntarynorfolk.org.uk if you have any questions and we’ll get in touch.
