Thousands Get Involved as Norfolk’s Volunteer Portal Celebrates Three Years

GetInVOLved Norfolk Celebrates Third Anniversary with Thousands Engaged in Volunteering Across the County

Voluntary Norfolk is celebrating three years of its flagship volunteering platform, GetInVOLved Norfolk, which continues to transform the way people find and engage in volunteering opportunities across the county.

Since its launch in July 2022, GetInVOLved Norfolk has become the go-to hub for volunteering, connecting individuals with local charities, community groups, and public sector organisations.

Success of the Get InVOLved Platform getting people volunteering in Norfolk

As of 1st July 2025, the platform has registered over 9,170 volunteers and 691 organisation administrators and moderators, showcasing how broad and active the community of people committed to making a difference is in Norfolk.

Since its launch, 494 organisations have used the platform to recruit volunteers, and together they have posted more than 2,180 volunteering opportunities. Of those, 606 opportunities are currently open and welcoming applications.

Examples of the kind of volunteering opportunities that are currently on offer include event volunteers for some of the big occasions happening this summer, like Run Norwich, Only the Brave near Thetford, or the Gorleston Clifftop Festival; a variety of roles supporting our NHS in our county’s hospitals and doctors’ surgeries; animal fosterers; baby and toddler group volunteers, and many more!

What it means for volunteering in Norfolk

The impact of the platform is reflected in the volume of activity it has generated. In total, there have been 10,866 applications to the volunteering roles – a figure that includes accepted, declined, withdrawn, approached, and pending applications. Most notably, approximately 3000 of those applications have led to volunteers being successfully placed in roles across the county.

Laura Holland, Volunteering Platforms Manager at Voluntary Norfolk, said:

“We’re incredibly proud of how GetInVOLved Norfolk has evolved over the last three years. The platform has not only made it easier for people to find meaningful ways to contribute, but it’s also helped organisations of all sizes recruit and manage volunteers more effectively. The range of opportunities posted, everything from helping in hospitals to supporting arts festivals, shows just how vital volunteering is to the social fabric of Norfolk.”

The success of the platform is helping to redress national trends showing a decline in the number of people volunteering across the UK over the last decade. The 2023/24 Community Life Survey found that 54% of adults in England had volunteered at least once in the past year, with many motivated by a desire to improve things and help others.

In Norfolk, where the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector plays a crucial role in delivering services and fostering wellbeing, volunteering has helped improve lives and strengthen communities. GetInVOLved Norfolk has proved especially valuable in rural areas, helping to bridge gaps in access and connect volunteers with opportunities that align with their passions and availability.

Future plans for GetInVOLved Norfolk

As the platform enters its fourth year, Voluntary Norfolk plans to build on its success. It is improving the accessibility of the website as well as offering support to people who are unfamiliar with the technology. A new project, Volunteering for Health, is exploring new ways to make volunteering accessible to everyone.

Furthermore, Voluntary Norfolk are also ensuring that the GetInVOLved Norfolk continues to assist the county’s businesses find volunteering opportunities for their employees. They expect a greater demand from companies looking to get their teams to engage in meaningful activities that benefit the VCSE sector in Norfolk. As a result, they are currently working on enhancements to the website to make it even easier for teams of colleagues to search for and apply to activities together.
