Volunteers are needed more than ever to support the response to Covid-19 and to keep essential voluntary sector services going. Here’s how you can help:
- Sign up as a new volunteer for priority health and social care roles as part of the county-wide Covid-19 response
- Sign up as a new volunteer for other roles with local charities and voluntary groups
- If you were previously registered with Voluntary Norfolk as a volunteer in another role, but would now like to volunteer for the Covid-19 response, update your details on our Volunteering Portal.
See details below for how to volunteer for these different roles.
If you want to volunteer to support the Covid-19 response
Voluntary Norfolk, Momentum and Community Action Norfolk are working with Norfolk County Council and local health providers to recruit volunteers for a county wide effort to respond to the Covid-19 crisis. These roles will be with the NHS, Local & District Council Community Hubs or in voluntary and community organisations.
We are particularly keen to hear from people who have the skills to volunteer in health and social care roles, which have been identified as priority areas, and those people who have current DBS checks. These roles include:
- Helping people to stay at home – check-up phone calls, collecting and delivering shopping, collecting prescriptions, dog walking
- Supporting people who may be lonely or isolated – telephone befriending, supporting people to use technology to keep in touch
- Helping to fill gaps in key services – driving people to medical appointments, helping to sort out stores
- Provision of food and medicines – Food Banks, collections and deliveries
After you submit your details, you will receive a call back from a member of our Covid-19 Volunteering Response Team to discuss what you can offer, what volunteers are needed in your local area and the next steps. Please be aware that this may take a bit of time as we coordinate our efforts with our partners. There has been an amazing response from the public offering their time and commitment, with over 3000 people registering to volunteer in the past two weeks. We will be working our way through everyone’s registration as quickly as we can, but it might take us a few days to get back to you.
Please also note that volunteers must be over 18 and children should not accompany adults who are undertaking volunteering activities.
Privacy Statement: Please note that in order to quickly and efficiently place volunteers where they are most needed, we may share the contact details of anyone who has registered specifically to support the Covid-19 response with other organisations including, but not limited to, Norfolk County Council, the NHS, Community Action Norfolk and other voluntary groups. Please read our updated Privacy Statement.
If you are already registered on the Voluntary Norfolk volunteering portal and want to volunteer for the Covid-19 response
We now have set up a separate process for registering people to volunteer to help with the Covid-19 response. If you are already registered with us and would like to volunteer for a new Covid-19 Community Response role, please sign up on our new sign-up form, which is dedicated to the coordinated community response. When you have registered you will receive a follow-up screening call, as detailed in the section above
If you want to volunteer with an existing charity or voluntary organisation or group, but not in one of the Covid-19 priority areas
If you would like to volunteer with a voluntary and community organisation, but do not want to or are not able to take on a specific role in relation to Covid-19, you can register with the Volunteer Bank on our Volunteering Portal. You can search for volunteering roles that fit your skills and interests, and charities and voluntary and organisations and groups can contact you if they think you would be suitable for a role they have available.
If you are already registered with us and would like to update your profile or see what other volunteering roles are needed at the current time, please log into the Volunteering Portal as before.
